Robust Video Coding using Multiple Description Lattice Vector Quantization with Channel Optimization

چکیده

A robust video coding scheme using multiple description coding (MDC) is presented. MDC is an effective approach to combat packet losses in the Internet and wireless networks. The new coder is built on the top of the video coding standard H. 263 baseline coder and employs multiple description vector quantization using translated lattices with local optimization (MDVQ-TLLO). MDVQ-TLLO introduces two translated lattices for side descriptions to reduce the central distortion for high-loss erasure channels. The central codebook is locally optimized according to current channel erasure statistics. Simulation results show that this coder achieves robust transmission and can easily adapt to the varying channel conditions. The proposed coder is suitable for real-time video applications over erasure channels.
